As technology makes more inroads in how we approach our work, work becomes more global and schedules become more constrained, virtual teams are becoming more prevalent. How do you successfully lead a team when you don’t meet face-to face?

Presenters:
Donna Horn is a lifelong learner who began developing her leadership skills as a patrol leader in her Brownie troop and still continues to learn and hone her skills. She has an EdD in leadership, with an emphasis in nonprofit leadership. Donna is the Manager of Organizational Development in Facilities at Seattle University, focusing on operational processes, policy development, organizational effectiveness and employee development. A volunteer Girl Scout trainer/facilitator since college, she helped organize and presented at GSUSA national Learning and Development Conferences at Macy, served on virtual teams to organize open space and world cafes at national conventions and co-developed and delivered a course of virtual project leadership with a virtual team. Donna has served on a council staff in membership and property management in the past and recently rejoined AGSES.
Jan Oestreich is a National Operational Volunteer for GSUSA. She has provided service to a number of councils and to GSUSA through a variety of workshops and task forces, and with Girl Scout University. Most recently, her focus has been on learning and organizational development, purposeful leadership, working with graphics, mindmapping, and leading virtual teams. In her professional life, Jan is a Policy Analyst and Program Coordinator with the Arizona Board of Regents, the governing body for the public universities in the state. Jan has a Masters in Higher-Postsecondary Education Leadership from Arizona State University.
She believes that maintaining a balance in life is the goal–work hard, play hard, learn something new every day, and enjoy those around you. Jan has received the Thanks Badge and Thanks Badge II.
