This is a follow-up to the Shop Talk we just held the end of April. We
have lots more to talk about on this topic! The main topic of this Shop
Talk will be to discuss staff on-boarding best practices, and to discuss
the pros and cons of various methods and length of time that is best to
on-board new employees. Should we train new staff on Girl Scouting
throughout the first full year? Is it better to do training of certain
topics on a quarterly basis with new employees, or in the first couple of
weeks – or the first month?
This is your chance to share your
successful on-boarding strategies, or ask questions of other HR
professionals in Girl Scouting to find out the best ways to welcome and
get a new employee feeling like they know how they fit into your
council.
If you have best practices you’re willing to share, let us know on
the registration form, and send any handouts you’d like to share with
the group by emailing them to wweeden@girlscouts.org ahead of time.
If we have time, we can bring up other topics you’d like to discuss,
so put those ideas on the registration form. If we don’t have time to
get to that, we’ll save it for the next Shop Talk – Human Resources!
This Shop Talk is facilitated by Joan Gibson, Director of Human
Resources, Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland and Alison Henkle,
Human Resources Director, Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western
Illinois.
